oh, one more thing

We're having 2-3 friends over next weekend for a small St. Patty's Day event and I did a little shopping. I wanted to serve the traditional corned beef and cabbage, but sadly acceptable corned beef is nowhere to be found around here. I need advice as to what I should serve with all this:

I'm surprised Jim hasn't posted a comment yet. You'll need whipping cream and a little sugar... Oh..you wanted advice about a meal.??? You can do a lot with potatoes. Love,MPM

I made a Guinness stew last night that was pretty good, so I think I'll serve that with some mashed potatoes. Maybe Guinness-battered onion rings too.

Don't know what to do about greens, but then again they are "the silent killer."

You can do a pretty good job of getting the flavor of corned beef from a spice mixture. Here is a simple recipe:
1 tsp dried ginger
1 T mustard seeds
2 tsp allspice
2 T whole black peppercorns
1 tsp whole cloves
1 tsp dill seeds
2 T coriander seeds
2 t mace
8 bay leaves
Use what you have on hand or can easily find. Nothing is crucial except for the coriander seeds and the peppercorns. Don't overdo the cloves or the dill.
