two days of fun

The weather out here's been wild. The day after Christmas brought an almost tropical rainstorm, complete with flash floods and warm air. By the time Irving arrived Thursday, things had cleared up so completely that there was blue sky nearly down to the horizon (doesn't happen very often here). Friday we headed into Tokyo, which was so clear we could see Fuji from city hall (though my camera couldn't).

Looking southwest from the 51st floor of the Mitsui-Sumitomo Building in Shinjuku. Though you can't see it in the picture, Fuji was clearly visible to the naked eye, pretty much in the center of this shot.

Roppongi, where you never need a flash on your camera, even at night.

It was a cold wait in that train station.

Saturday we hopped in the car and drove down to Nokogiriyama, which my parents will remember as the mountain we took the gondola to the top of, and Kate will remember as the mountain we arrived at too late to take the gondola to the top of. Again, we could see Fuji, but my camera couldn't.

Looking west towards the Izu Peninsula.

Irving, standing victorious atop the mountain (sshhhh, nevermind that we took a gondola up).

Sam and Irving, in front of a very big Kannon, one of the female incarnations of Buddha.
